"Hell Up to Date: The Reckless Journey of R. Palasco Drant, Newspaper Correspondent, Through the Infernal Regions, as Reported by Himself." by Art Young (1866-1943) Chicago: F.J. Schulte, July 1894.
Rare first work by famed left wing cartoonist Arthur Henry "Art" Young updating Dante's "Inferno" for a new generation. The topic was revisited in 1934 as "Art Young's Inferno: A Journey Through Hell Six Hundred Years After Dante." Numerous pen-and-ink drawings shine in this 90 page work by one of the luminaries of the New York political art scene. Young was a frequent contributor to "The Masses," "The Liberator," and numerous other political publications and was the publisher of the short-lived comic newspaper "Good Morning." This edition scanned from a copy in his collection by Martin Goodman of the Riazanov Digital Library Project. Non-commercial reproduction permitted.
